Since the age of 16 I been making my own natural formulations to care for my hair and skin. I was tired of buying products that didn’t worked for me with ingredients that I didn’t understand. I can remember my father giving me a rose perfume for my 16th birthday. It smelled just like a bouquet of roses. It was my favorite perfume. After seeing the ingredients were just rose essential oil and alcohol, I began learning more about various essentials oils, their benefits and most importantly how to use them safely. I did not know it then, but this was to be the beginning. With this knowledge, I started designing an oil blend to use for my hair and skin. This blend would become my oldest and dearest formula, “Eden oil”. Since then, it has grown to a powerful 28 oil elixir excellent for both hair and skin.
Fast forward to Christmas 2018, a year before I started Madam and Gents Naturals. I didn’t have much money and I wanted to give gifts. That year I had 28 people on my list. So, I decided to just make them a product of mine to use. I made about 5 formulas and gave them to the people on my list. No label, no instructions, no ingredients. A few weeks had passed and everyone began telling me how much they loved their gifts even asking for more and encouraging me to sell them. I never thought about selling my formulas. It just wasn’t something I ever wanted to do. Now, that same Christmas, my best friend, and expressionist artist, Linette, also didn’t have much money to buy gifts. She made me a painting and gave it to me when I came to visit her in NYC. It brought me to tears. She said the colors represented me to her as an artist. It would become this very painting I’d use to represent me for the business.
Now, as a product designer, I feel a responsibility to produce consistent formulas that aim to alleviate the symptoms of common ailments while combating signs of premature aging. The unique scent combinations I create are carefully designed to relax and uplift you using just pure essential oils as the fragrance. This consistency will remain at the core of our values and the blueprint for any formula created in the future.
